Pre-mined tunnels are a DonutSMP-specific method. The map near spawn is criss-crossed with old strip mines, and the players who dug them left ore in the walls and ceilings. Walk the tunnels with a Fortune III pickaxe and take what they missed. The community estimate is a wide range because it depends on how picked over the tunnels are, but it needs no digging of your own.
